TEACHER OF PHYSICS AND SCIENCE

POSITION: CAMBRIDGE EXAMINATIONS A LEVEL AND IGCSE TEACHER OF PHYSICS AND SCIENCE
Job Overview:
Reporting to the Head of Secondary, the successful candidate will be a passionate and committed educator able to demonstrate successful teaching experience in the field of Science with specialism in Physics, be student centred, an active participant in the extra- curricular life of the school, highly motivated and a team player.
Responsibilities and Duties:
He/she will be responsible for;
• Substituting for absent colleagues when necessary.
• Offering full support to and actively participating in the school’s extra- curricular activity programme.
• Promoting the school positively at all times (including meetings with professional bodies, individuals and on social network sites).
• Working co- operatively to maintain and enhance a pleasant professional working environment.
• Establish a dynamic and stimulating laboratory teaching space and regularly scheduled practical Science and Physics lessons.
• Effectively teaching – using a variety of approaches – the respective syllabi across each year level.
• Delivery of A Level Physics, IGCSE Science and general Science.
• Attending punctually on all occasions agreed in the contract and as reasonably requested by the School.
• Keeping detailed and updated lesson plans (using the school’s proforma) and records of group and individual work with students.
• Participating in meetings, trips, and other events as may be reasonably requested.
• Providing a safe, organised, disciplined and stimulating environment in the classroom.
• Undertaking any other reasonable tasks as instructed by the Head of Secondary after appropriate consultation.
• For matters relating to A level and IGCSE taking responsibility for designated areas and tasks as directed by the Head of Secondary.
• Be responsible for safe laboratory practices and be familiar with all potential risks and responses within the laboratory environment.
• Actively supporting and applying all school policies and procedures.
• Providing regular assessment feedback to students in line with school policy and use this to inform future learning.
• Perform break duties according to the published schedules.
• Application of regular assessments in A Level Physics, IGCSE Science and general Science including mock examinations, marking and feedback to students and parents.
• Taking part in the performance and management programme as required by the school.
Qualifications and desired attributes:
• Experience in teaching Cambridge A Level Physics, IGCSE Science and General Science.
• A strong commitment to student welfare and student well- being.
• Participation in the establishment of links with parents and other stakeholders.
• A recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and PGCE or equivalent.
• Knowledge and understanding of current educational thinking related to assessment, twenty first century learning and the integration of technology.
