Chief Engineer

Attends meetings and training as required by the General Manager
Is polite and professional in any situation where the image or reputation of the hotel is represented
Stays current with developments in the field of Engineering, and makes appropriate suggestions and recommendations to the General Manager
Performs any additional duties as directed by the General Manager
Contributes to the morale and team spirit of the hotel by maintaining effective relationships with hotel colleagues.
Maintains a high standard of personal hygiene, dress, uniform, and body language
Ensure that all activities are carried out honestly, ethically and within the parameters of Vietnamese Law
Is fully conversant with all health and safety, fire and emergency procedures

In this position, you are accountable to achieve the outcomes listed below:
• Ensures that employees are selected, trained, evaluated and rewarded in compliance with existing employee management systems
• Maintain efficient administration within the department preparing and submitting operational reports on time
• All employees complete a self- leadership review and attend a formal performance review before the end of their probation
• Staff training and development
• On job performance is regularly observed and assessed informally. Good performance is acknowledged, poor performance is coached
• Condition of guest villas, public areas and back of house areas
• Plans and schedules appropriate ongoing preventative maintenance programs
• Liaises with purchasing and suppliers to ensure provision of quality engineering supplies at most competitive prices
• Maintains facilities and equipment by and conducting routine inspections and determining appropriate rectification measures
• Coaches, counsels, disciplines and develops subordinate employees.
• Ensures that safety and emergency procedures for guests and employees meet or exceed the recognized industry standards and conform to local legal requirements
• Develops and promotes energy conservation programs by monitoring utility costs and consumption
• Prepares duty rosters, vacation plans and schedules and public holiday schedules to ensure efficient use of human resources
• Maintains systems to be able to handle day to day guest requests quickly and efficiently
• Keeps records of all information in the form of blueprints, diagrams, manuals, maintenance records, logs and journals relevant to the efficient operation of the department
• Directs and controls all subordinate Engineering staff to ensure that all day to day operational matters are handled on time and guest expectations are met.
• Monitors the standard of work carried out by contractors engaged by the hotel to ensure that it meets the agreed quality
• Other duties are performed as assigned by the GM
• Maintains a supply of inventory necessary for optimal operating efficiency
• Prepares, monitors and controls the hotel’s annual R&M budget
• Quantity and nature of guest comments and complaints
• Departmental expenditure maintained within budget
• All direct reports receive a formal annual performance review prior to contract renewal

- At least 5 years at similar role in 5* resort
- Strong budgetary, projections, and cost control skills.
- Possesses sharp ability for attention to detail (able to quickly identify variances in standards), working efficiently and flexibly. Ability to multi- task and be highly organized while working under pressure.
- Must have developed the following communication skills: ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, customers and clients
